Projects
Recent Past:
> PhD Dissertation - completed in May 2009
The goals of my dissertation research project are to identify the roles and elucidate the mechanisms by which deoxycholic acid (DCA), a secondary bile acid, modulates the function of receptor tyrosine kinases, specifically the IGF-IR, and how this affects the survival of colorectal cancer cells.
Currently:
> Research Associate at the Arizona Cancer Center
Currently working as a post-doctoral research associate at the Arizona Cancer Center focusing on translational melanoma and sarcoma research projects.
> Web Development
Admittedly, I have a very geeky hobby! I have had a very long-standing interest in website development! In my spare time, I enjoy building and marketing websites. Therefore, I started Connexins a few years ago, which led to several specialized web projects.
Future Projects:
I have unique aspirations and goals for my future. I would like to start web-based organization to pursue several of my goals and visions.
Here are some of my long-term professional goals:
> Provide resources that would help scientists (and graduate students) communicate better with one another, collaborate, improve their personal, leadership, and management skills.
> Engage the academic scientific community in communicating and serving the general public. For example, recently, I developed Closing the Science Gap and Science Art Gallery.
> Develop science-based resources that no one pursues due to lack of funding in those areas.
> Combine my scientific training with knowledge of website development and internet marketing to create online resources that would help the general public better understand science and scientific research.
